Byron V Mullumbimby 17/7/2010 After two away games the Bay were back at home on the weekend against the Moonshiners. In what were perfect conditions for rugby the bay turned it on for an entertaining afternoon display. With an injury list as long as available players the Bay was again tested for depth. A back line that consisted of only two of the original players from game one this season emphasised Byron’s’ ability to inject new-comers like Travis and Jeff, reassured the clubs depth in available talent. Byron put the feelers out in the opening stages of the match similar to previous weeks. However the Bay settled into a rhythm off the back of some tight forward control and strong ruck and mauling execution through the leadership of Chile. The Bay back line began to test the shiners outside backs exposing a few open weaknesses. Sticking to a formula that worked, the Bay went wide on numerous occasions through the gelling of Dan Meadth and Paul Mitchell the ball was delivered with speed and accuracy to the outside speed stars. Continual execution allowed newcomer Travis Mahoney to get plenty of touches in what was his first taste of rugby. Proving to be too fast and strong for the shiners defence Trav ran in two impressive tries. A need to work on discipline at the breakdown saw the Bay gift the shiners two penalties allowing 6 easy points to flow. Byron ran in two more tries through Lewis and Mitch Loane. At half time the bay went into the sheds 20-6 leaders. |
