Byron Bay Charity Day a success.

Byron Bay hosted their 2017 Charity Day on Saturday with proceeds going to More Than Awareness.

There was fundraisers and an Auction for special limited edition Jerseys, which fans bid for. There were plenty of fantastic prizes to be won which have been generously donated by some legendary business in Byron Bay.

On Grand final weekend last year, the Byron Bay community was shocked and saddened to lose a true sporting legend of the region. Paul Mitchell, affectionately known as PM, Pork Sword or just Pauly to his mates, he played Rugby League for the Byron Red Devils, Mullum Giants and the Seagulls , and of course for the Byron Bay Rugby Club and Twilight Cricket for the BBRCC (Byron Bay Rugby Cricket Club)Everyone in these sporting circles knew him as a talented, tough, skillful player but more importantly for epitomising what it means to be a good bloke who always had time for his mates.

This year the Byron Bay Rugby club has reformed a second-grade team after 20 years “THE SANDCRABS”. The idea for the side was spawned in memory of Pauly. The team is star-studded, hard-hitting and is creating waves throughout the competition but more importantly, it’s a social outlet for 15-25 blokes who get together once or twice a week that probably wouldn’t be doing so otherwise. Perfect for both physical and mental health.
The Bay took on Lennox Head in honour of Pauly Mitchell at the Byron Recreation Ground.

NBN did a fantastic special for the game:

The club raised over $6000 for the charity More than awareness which aims to empower communities to achieve positive change to improve physical, mental and social well being.
