The 2017 Season is very nearly upon us with Byron Bay Rugby Clubs first game on Saturday 25th March at the Byron Bay Rec Fields, Corner of Marvell and Tennyson Street.

After the success of last year, Byron Bay President Tim Ahern is pleased to announce that we have entered two teams into the competition this campaign.

Byron will be fielding a newly formed reserve grade – The Sand Crabs, as well as the minor premier winners of last year Byron Bay first XV.

Sand Crabs will Kick off at 1:50 followed by the First Grade side at 3:15.

This is not only great for the growth of the club, and of the sport in the shire but also delivers the community more competitive sport to watch on a Saturday.

We want the local residents and people traveling through alike to come and cheer the boys on as they face local rivals Ballina Seahorses in both grades of Rugby.

As always everyone is welcome, its a great family day out with hot food and cold drinks available for purchase on the day.

If there is anyone in the area that wants to get involved and play rugby this season you will be welcomed with open arms. Any standard, any nationality any size or shape, take the plunge and sign on for a fun packed year of competitive sport and social events.

Coach Paul Jeffery said:

“Not only is it great to grow the sport in the area, but its a chance to grow our family within the community. Rugby is not just about what happens on the pitch, its about friendships, bonding and helping out your neighbours. The way I see it the more people we have turning up to train and play the more people we have to grab a beer with after as well.

“I just want to pass my knowledge of the game we all love onto as many people as possible this year”

If you are interested in playing and have previously felt like the first grade comp is a bit out of your comfort zone, then now is your chance to play social rugby along with the guys in the reserve grade.

Training is every Tuesday and Thursday night in the middle of town at the Rec fields starting at 6pm, bring down your boots and have a run around.

We hope to see as many people next Saturday as possible and hopefully some new faces at training as well.

Go The Bay.
