Rivalry kicks off between the two squads
Byron Bay Rugby has sneaked in front of Ballina after their catch up game at Southern Cross University last Thursday night.
Ballina, with a game still in hand, will host the Bay on Saturday at Quays reserve.
“It’s going to be a big test for the boys,” said Byron Bay Club Captain Edward Brown.
“We hung on in there in the first round, after we were down to 14 men after the 20th minute.”
There were a lot of debutants in that first round, but Byron Bay have gelled now and looking further a field.
“We’ve got to stay calm and play each game as it comes” said Brown. “You don’t win a comp’ in the middle of the season.”
The Rugby pendulum swung try after try the last time the two sides met. Byron Bay edging across 31-25.
The Sandcrabs ran out for the first time ever in round one against Reserve Grand Finalists Ballina, with a lot of the guys not knowing each others name.
“That’s all changed now” said Co-Club Captain Teuma. “The Sandcrabs are starting to click now and a lot of the boys are familiar with each others style of play.”
