Its Rugby time again!
This weekend sees Byron Bay Rugby Club kick start the campaign with away fixtures for Byron Bay First team and the return of Byron Bay Sand Crabs. As usual reserve grade will kick off at 1:50 and First grade at 3:15.
Both fixtures will be played at Maurie Ryan Oval in Lismore.
First XV will take on Southern Cross Uni and the Crabs will take to the park against our old friends the Mullumbimby Moonshiners.
Byron Bay have been working hard in the off season and were the first team in the zone to start with an intensive fitness program which is already paying off as the teams come together. As always the Bay have a wealth of talent spanning from every corner of the world with players from no less than 9 countries already registered and ready to go, with plenty of old faces running out again for another campaign and more boys on the way.
Player coach Craig Wallace said:
“I just cant wait for the weekend. It’s unusual for us to have an away fixture first up, but we are ready to play and even more ready for the bus trip back. It will be great for the boys in both grades to have a run out and blast away the cobwebs from the long offseason.”
We hope everyone else in the Bay is excited as us for the season to start and make sure you save the date for the first home game of the season Saturday 7th April. It’s going to be a ripper.
If anyone out there is still waiting to play rugby or be involved in the club, its never to late. We are still welcoming in players from anywhere, any standard. Training is on a Tuesday and Thursday starting at 6pm at the Byron Bay Memorial Recreational Grounds on Tennyson Street. We are also still on the look out for volunteers for our home fixtures as well, so if you love the game and want to be involved in this historic club, please reach out on the contact page on our website. We can never have enough help.
Lets make this year one to remember. GO THE BAY.
